Personal Name registration under .name.jo

 

The National Information Technology Center launched the new service of registering personal names under .name .jo for the first time this year. A special policy and procedure was issued and then approved by the Board of Directors of NITC. To launch the service, NITC invited the different Internet Service Providers for a meeting on 13/8/2006. NITC always seeks to enhance the domain name services presented to Jordanian citizens and .name .jo is one of them. A personal name is especially used by individuals who wish to have their own personal web site. Registration is done online by accessing www.dns.jo. Initial registration cost of a personal domain name is 25 JDs and 15JDs for annual renewal.

Online Registration of Domain Name Under .jo

 

NITC initiated an online registration of domain names under .jo. in addition to domain name renewal service through the web site www.dns.jo. Registration can be done in either Arabic or English and support documents could be sent either by uploading them electronically or by fax. Payment can be done either in cash or through our Bank. The aim of this online registration is to facilitate remote registration and provide registrants with quality service. Online registration saves time and effort especially for citizens living in remote areas. The service has been well received by the citizens. The number of applications submitted has increased considerably. The service will remain under a trial period until the ends of October, 2006 to enable the Registration Unit modify the service through the feedback it receives from its clients.

Upgrading the Internet Bandwidth

 

The NITC upgraded its Internet bandwidth by 40% in September 2006 to provide its government clients with a better service. The bandwidth will be upgraded again by 20% at the beginning of next year.

Education Exhibition in Jordan, 15-19/7/2006



The NITC participated in the Education Exhibition of 2006 from 15-19/7/2006 that was held in the International Car Exhibition venue. The NITC as the implementing arm of the MoICT in executing the Information Technology programs, participated in the Education Exhibition to display and market the Knowledge Stations Program (KS). The Initiative of establishing Information Technology and Community Service Centers (renamed later Knowledge Stations) was launched in 2001.  This initiative is intended to implement IT in local communities in remote areas in preparation for the E-government process.  Since their inception, the various knowledge stations have trained a total of 72,987 people on basic computer literacy and other various advanced courses on how to utilize ICT towards enhancing their businesses, attaining health care information, participating in e-government, acquiring novel leadership and entrepreneurship qualities, and general awareness of the various social issues such as gender discrimination and child development. An additional 45,000 people have used the stations’ walk-in services that include Internet access, fax machines, photocopiers and various multimedia services.

Boeing Supports the Knowledge Stations to Develop Jordanian Economy, 17/8/2006



The Boeing Company is working together with the Knowledge Stations, an initiative administered by The National Information Technology Center and founded by The King Abdullah II Fund for Development, to provide additional knowledge stations and to help better equip those already operating. The initiative is designed to ensure that every Jordanian has access to Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in their local community.The Boeing grant will be used to fund the set-up costs of a new knowledge station.  It will also be used to purchase new ICT systems and program materials for Knowledge Station training courses and to recruit and provide training for new Knowledge Station staff. The Boeing Company is the world’s leading aerospace company and the largest manufacturer of commercial jetliners and military aircraft, and advanced information and communication systems. Board of Directors, 5th meeting, 30/8/2006


 

The NITC Board of Directors met in the premises of NITC on 30/8/2006. The meeting was chaired by the Minister of MoICT, chair of the Board.

The most important issue that was discussed  was the strategy and the work plan of the NITC for the years 2007-2009.

The Jordanian Knowledge Stations: "Accomplishments and Aspirations: A Workshop" Amman, 10/9/2006

 

Under the patronage of Her Highness Zein Bint Nasser, the Chairman of the Royal Hashemite Fund for Badia Development and member of the Royal Committee for the KSs, NITC  organized a workshop under the title "The Jordanian Knowledge Stations: Accomplishments and Aspirations" in Amman, on 10/9/2006. The aim of the workshop was to review and discuss the barriers and challenges that face the progress and sustainability of the KS Program and the future aspirations. The main results of the workshop included the following recommendations:

§         Define the role of the host agency and its relation with the KS.

§         Reconsider the standard of living of the remote areas and amend training fees accordingly.

§         Sustain maintenance of equipment and exchange old equipment with newer ones as the need arises.

§         Provide new software required by the local community.

§         Train trainers to enhance their capabilities and to keep up with the changes in the IT field.

§         Maximize the efficiency of the KS and utilize trainers to the maximum.

§         Organize regular meetings of KSs and the PMU.

§         Organize marketing and awareness campaign of the KS.

§         Upgrade readiness of the KS to be able to provide e-government services.

Visits


-    3/8/2006
A delegation of 17 persons from the Police Academy/ Program of Management of Operations Center for Officers visited the NITC.

15/10/2006 A delegation from ICANN Corporation visited the Center on the 15th, Oct. 2006. The two delegates where accompanied by the ICANN representative of the Middle East. The main aim of the visit was to strengthen relationship of ICANN with NITC and discuss the implementation of Arabic Domain Names, their technical and linguistic aspects, with the Center. After meeting with the Director General, ICANN met with the System Engineering Department in the Center and discussed security issues and technical problems and IDN implementation.

Lectures
 

On 6/8/2006 Dr. Haidar Fraihat, Director General of NITC gave a lecture for the National Defense Workshop entitled "Science and Technology as One Element in National Power and their Role in Security, Defense and National Development".

On 3/10/2006 The Director General gave another lecture in the National Defense College about " E-Government and Computer Networks Security".

Participations

 

  • 19/6/2006 the NITC participated in the activities of the workshop that was held by the Investment Promotion Organization concerning the Investment Environment Reform Agenda. The workshop was held in coordination with OECD.
  • 2/8/2006 the Director General attended the opening ceremony of the training workshop entitled "Security of Financial Institutions".
  • 14/8/2006 NITC participated in the workshop entitled "Information Technology Infrastructure Library".
  • 29-31/8/2006 the Director General participated in the National Jordanian Conference on " Jordan: a Future Vision" which was held at Al Al Bayt University. The Director General presented a paper on "NITC Role in Economic Development".
  • 28/8/2006 NITC participated in the technical workshop regarding The Logical Framework Analysis for the National Plan of the Environment Sector. The workshop discussed the application of the three environment memoranda in animal diversity, desertification and climate change.
  • 12/9/2006 the NITC participated in the introductory workshop concerning upgrading of government services.
  • 17/9/2006 Dr. Haidar Freihat attended the 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner Ceremony of the Jordan Computer Society.
  • 18/9/2006 the Director General participated in the workshop on "ICT Policy Statement".
